Many people are not aware of the problem and / or don’t know how to fix it. Unfortunately, these methods are rarely applied in practice (and relatively new). In many cases, corrections of this nature might not make much difference. There has been some nice work in the last few years to correct p-values from models obtained in these some of these settings (see R package selectiveinference and references therein). You are correct in that ignoring multiple corrections and / or using model selection tools can give misleading inference.
